FLOWER FRIDAY ~ HELLEBORUS

Hellebores! One of my absolute FAVOURITE flowers! How on Earth had I never heard of these before?! Lucky for me these beauties grow right outside my front door and brave the winter each year and into the Spring. Also referred to as a 'Christmas Rose' or 'Lenten Rose', Hellebores are part of the buttercup family and flower November to May. They come in several colours including a soft white, soft pink, deep purple, and pale-green. With over 15 species, some have double petals, some have freckles and some are flawless. One of the most popular varieties are Helleborus niger, which have a pure white flower with deep green leaves. Beware though, don't let their beauty fool you....Hellebores are poisonous! Make sure to wash up after playing with these gorgeous flowers to avoid skin irritation.
